MENSWEAR KNIT LOOK 2017

PROCESS & INSPIRATION
This look was created as the first physical representation of my exploration into NYC gangster culture of the 1920's-1930's. I chose to make this look comfortable and over-sized to capture the regal essence that gangsters illustrated to the public during this time. I weaved in my family history into this look by looking into the life of my great, great grandfather, Ciro Terranova: The Artichoke King of NYC. I took an image of Ciro Terranova and created a print from it by carving the image into a block of linoleum. I then hand printed the terry cloth fabric used to make the jogger sweatpants.
In terms of fabrication, the sweatpants are made from terry cloth, the top is cotton rib, the bomber jacket is boiled wool, and each garment is finished with rib trim.
